Zach started class Friday!

Okay I have to put this on whether he likes it or not. Zach has not been a big fan of going to school and always makes fun of me for being excited about the next class I am about to take or spending hours telling him everything I learned and all the great ideas I got. Since he got back from this last deployment we have been very blessed that he was given a job that gives him a regular schedule which means he can take some classes! I enrolled him online through Embry Riddle while he was deployed. He was chatting with me the whole time so he knew I was doing it. He picked his degree path and all and sort of picked a class he thought looked interesting. When he got home I took him to the education office to meet with Embry Riddle and decide the next step. I told him I would wait in the hall with the kids so he could talk to the reps. He just stood there and then after a minute or so asked "So what do I need to tell them?" I said "okay I am going in with you." So we went in and I explained the the nice ladies that he has never been enrolled in school and we needed to find out what military training would count as credit toward his degree. Poor Zach just sat there. He had no idea what he was doing! After I got him started Cody and Ryan started brawling on they floor so I took them out and Zach had no choice but to do the rest on his own. He did very well up to the point they asked "So what classes can we register you for today?" He had no idea. So I came back in and we decided Aviation History onlien would be a nice starter class.

So flash forward to Friday when the class began. I showed Zach how to log in and wrote down his password and all. He will not remember it so I picked it so I will! I showed him the syllabus and class schedule of assignments, printed them, then gave him his nice new matching folder and spiral notebook in his favorite color, green! At the point I thought he was done for! Honestly this is a huge thing for him! His first assignment is to introduce himself. So I showed him how to do that and then left him to it. About 30 minutes later he asked me to come read over it! No kidding! He was so stressed out the introduction! It was actually quite humorous which is how Zach is so I said post it. He did and that was enough for him.

Saturday after he got home from work he went to his blackboard account and there were a lot more intros! He was so overwhelmed! I was just dying of laughter because I have been doing this for years now and it was just funny to me. He started by reading his teacher's response to his intro which was a good choice because his teacher gave him rave reviews on the humor and all. After the we went through the rest of the intros and he started to realize that there is such a variety of people that it was no big deal.

Now for his first real assignment! This has been a chaotic weekend. He worked a full shift Saturday then at midnight had to go back in until 4 this morning. He was told they would need him back around 9 so the kids and I left for church. Well the plane that he was to go in for was broken somewhere so he ended up not having to go in until 6 tonight. While we were at church the house was quiet so he typed up his first assignment. I get home and he asks me to read it. Partly becuase the teacher does grade the grammar which I kind of think is odd for a history class, but whatever. Zach always has me proofread things for errors so I sat down and did. I told him it sounded great so post it. He logs in, posts it, then sees another guy had picked the same person to write about and had written three times as much! So he was very frustrated and beside himself. So I have decided this is going to be a looonnngg 12 week class! I have two starting soon, plus the boys go back so I will have homework to juggle and all. I realize with Zach being out of school for so long this is tough, but I keep telling him you have to start somewhere! I did and almost 5 years later I am 3 classes from getting my associates! I know it's not a bachleor's but I have worked really hard and most importantly stuck to it even through the rough classes! I know Zach will do well once he gets past the inital shock and frustration!
