First adventure..where do we start?

For those that do not know much about Salzburg I will give you the brief reasons I wanted to go. For starters it is where the Sound of Music was partially filmed and the Von Trapp family lived. It is also the birthplace of Mozart. Salzburg is right on the border of Austria and Germany in a picturesque part of Europe referred to as the heart of Europe. I can't remember where I read that, but one of the websites we went to described it that way. Most people that had been here before us took the Sound of Music tour, but we try to avoid set tours just because we never know if Cody will be okay. I am so glad we did NOT do the tour! Cody was not the happiest little traveler this time around. He loved the hotel, we all did! Once we left and the real adventure began he decided this was not what he wanted. Nevertheless we kept going! Well I guess I should say I kept going since I am the only one that can keep him happy. His first big issue was Zach pushing the stroller. Then it was Ryan looking at the fountain.

This first collage is part one of our day. We chose a parking lot and started walking with the little map we had from the hotel. Another reason we don't take tours is because we find some interesting things and get the feel for the city by just wandering. Yes we get lost, but that is part of the fun right! Actually this time we didn't get lost. I found it very easy to navigate compared to some places we have been. Anyway the Chapter Square also known as Kapitaplatz was the first thing we stumbled upon. Our goal was to make it to that big fortress seen in the first picture! So we wandered the square and found our way to Cathedral Square. There were little vendors all over and churches everywhere! I love the old churches here, but they are very hard to photgraph inside. This one is the Cathedral and it was beautiful! The artwork throughout is amazing!

After wandering the square for a bit we decided to find the path to the fortress so followed a rather large crowd that we figured must be going there. We saw that there was a train/bus type thing you could ride, but thought oh it can't be that far and there was a long line just to find out how much it would cost. So we opted to walk........guess we didn't learn from previous times making this decision!
